INDEPENDENT LIFE

    ''DEFINITION

Independent living is an international philosophy and movement that promotes the self-determination of people with disabilities ,self -respect and equal opportunities, and which ,going beyond the simple logic of welfare and institutionalization ,aims for full inclusion in society and in the community.''

    Community life skills –

At the level of interaction in the community and society; examples of such skills: volunteering, knowledge and use of local authority structures, involvement in local decision-making, pro-social behavior, knowledge of citizens' rights, obligations and freedoms, ecological thinking, etc. Through its services, Estuar Foundation addressed the following areas of independent living skill

    Daily life:

Nutrition, menu planning, grocery shopping, food preparation, proper table manners, kitchen cleanliness and food storage, home management and safety. In general, parents or caregivers of people with mental heal the problems become extremely protective of their children (or whatever the degree of kinship). Most of the time, people with a psychiatric diagnosis are cut off from their daily life in their family and home. Even if they don't express it clearly, impotence is invoked in everyone's mind. The direct consequence of such attitudes and behaviors is acceptance. That is why people in our target group often do not know enough about the basic foods and the composition of the dishes that are served. I don't know what the process of purchasing and cooking involves (I don't know how to choose and buy in stores, I don't know how to clean the table after eating, etc.). But all these skills can be developed if they are given confidence! Housing management and use of community resources: refers to those skill areas necessary for a person to make a positive transition into the community. Housing management, transportation and community resources are included. On the same principle, of over-protection, there are often people who have not used a broom or cleaned the kitchen or bathroom.Because of the illness and the tendency to isolate people with mental health problems, they develop an anxiety of crowds, of using public transport. They no longer relate to any kind of authority (outside of psychiatric institutions), which in many cases also determines the abuse and non-respect of the rights of these persons by third partie

    Interpersonal life skills –

On a personal level, a person's relationship with himself where we can include self-reflection, how to approach and manage emotions, self-knowledge and positive self-evaluation, motivation and thought processes, etc Interpersonal life skills – at the level of interpersonal interaction, communication and relationship with others where we can include teamwork, cooperation, open expression of emotions, active listening, conflict management and resolution, etc

    Personal care:

Promotes harmonious physical and emotional development of the person through personal hygiene, healthy lifestyle, correct sexuality. Estuar Foundation's desire that people with mental health problems become aware of the need for personal care, the consequences of the lack of this care, the benefits they have if they obtain these skills in relation to the others they interact with, but above all the benefits for themselves. It is true that the same eternal enemy present in the life of a person with mental illness may be the very treatment without which he could not function for himself and for the community. The side effects can be quite significant: loss of motivation, loss of interest in one's own person - hence the neglect of one's physical appearance, one's own emotions, etc.

    Money Management:

Focuses on skill areas that help people make wise financial decisions; notions about money, savings, income and taxes, banking, obtaining credit, income and expenditure plan (personal budget), consumer skills. Independent living skills also include financial aspects. There are people with mental health problems who do not know what it means to plan their own finances; example – due to psychiatric treatments the need is to smoke, as a result the first choice is to buy cigarettes and, only if there is money left, the rest of personal debts

    CONCLUSION

THE development of independent life skills leads to the development of the child,s self-confidence .The small things he does on his own now . will later turn into a general feeling of power
